What is a Hex?
Wizards use different kinds of magic - from Charms to Curses, depending on the intention when it is casted. Beginners often tend to neglect the importance of the differentiation of such spells, that they often tried to categorized it in only two aspect of Magic - the good and the bad. But, like all magical arts, Spells needed to be categorized properly for the better understanding of the casters.
Like for instance, Hexes were mostly tied up with Jinxes and vice versa. Most people tend to use Hexes for fun or when they want to have something to laugh about. Although, very few know that Hexes doesn't only bring rather a peculiar kind of effect to the victim but also pain and discomfort.
So generally, the definition of a Hex would be that it is rather less powerful than a Curse but more powerful than a Jinx. And because of the discomfort and sometimes the pain that it brought about to the poor victim, some categorize it as a lower form of Negative Magic.
But aside from its negative effects, Hexes, like other forms of magic, can also aide in protection as a means of distraction.
Conclusively, the use and effect of Hexes still depends on the caster's will.
